STAR TREK GEEK SCENARIO 1:

Science Officer - "Scans show Class 7 ionized plasma activity within the ion cloud, Captain, but interference prevents our scanners from penetrating more than 100 kilometers deep."

Captain - "Could our shields hold?"

Chief Engineer - "It'd be a close thing, Captain. At maximum power, I could only promise six, maybe seven minutes without risking overload."

Captain - "Going in is out of the question then."

Science Officer - "I would not recommend it."

Captain - "Options?"

Science Officer - "We could launch a Class I probe. I'm not certain how long it will last in the ion cloud, but it is likely to give us a better view of what is inside."

Captain - "Make it so."

STAR TREK GEEK SCENARIO 2:

Tactical Officer - "Scans show no energy signatures or life signs, Captain."

Science Officer - "Captain?"

Captain - "Yes, Lieutenant?"

Science Officer - "The ambassador's vessel is in stable orbit around the planet..."

Captain - "What are you thinking?"

Science Officer - "It's highly unlikely that the vessel found its way into a stable orbit after being disabled. My theory is that the ship was in orbit when it was attacked. The damage to the ship and the stable orbit..."

Captain - "Suggest they were attacked either by surprise... maybe a cloaked Romulan or Klingon?"

Science Officer - "Those are phaser and photon torpedo signatures, Captain..."

Captain - "So you're saying..."

Science Officer - "They were attacked by someone they knew or thought they knew."

Captain - "But if they are in a stable orbit..."

Tactical Officer - "Maybe they beamed down to the surface... There's strong ionic interference. I can't get a good reading."

Science Officer - "Captain, I suggest launching a Class 2 Probe. If the ambassador is down there, he might not be alone."

Captain - "Make it so."

That's all I have to say. Thanks!

**EDIT**

LOL - It seems that some people don't grasp what I'm suggesting. One person did, at least, hopefully the developers do, too. Probes are missing. We're required to fly right up to everything and scan it from close range. Why? Are the sensors on star ships suddenly myopic and lose their contacts? Every single thing is fly up to it and scan it. Switch it up. This is an easy feature to implement and would allow you to mix up the layout of adventures more. Give opportunities for Captains to use them tactically.

For example, there could be a dense nebula, which occludes visual on enemies, so Captains can fire off a probe to and detect enemies or cloak signatures. Give it a five or ten minute cool down for PVP/PVE. Science vessels would have Advanced Probes with the best features (largest range/area of effect and highest percent chance of detecting cloaked ships). Cruisers would have normal Probes (with the normal range/area of effect). Escorts would have Basic Probes, with the fewest features (smallest area of effect and smallest chance to detect cloaked enemies).

Also, roleplaying is missing in the game. An element of story and drama. Go here. Kill X enemies or Press your Interact Hotkey X times. It's not bad, but it's wooden. Where's the problem solving? Where's the STORY? What's the interaction between Bridge Officers? Everytime there's a story point, it's just one officer popping up to give you a long spiel as to why you have to beam down to the planet. There's no mystery, no drama. This might be good enough for some, but for people, like myself and others, who like a good story, liked the interaction between bridge officers, it's something that is missing, and it's easy enough to fix.

Instead of having a bridge officer popping up and giving you an essay as to why you need to go to the planet's surface, have an actual conversation between Bridge Officers, discussing it, which ends with the final message that details the mission. No new mechanics needed, just a bit of creativity and time.

Thanks!

I think he's suggesting talking to himself while playing.

Or he really likes probes.

Updated with an edit, since I guess I'm too creative for most people.

SFC had probes, on a CD. You could even arm them with a warhead if you were desperate for a weak makeshift torpedo.

It would be nice if I didn't have to fly within 3~7km of everything just to scan it. That's REALLY close when we're talking about starships, and in the show, they could scan things from tens of thousands of km away.

Not sure how it would be implemented at this point, but a good idea nonetheless.

I'll leave it up to them to decide if they want to implement it at all (either idea). I have a very high bar for a game based on Trek. If it's not good enough for Trek, might as well reskin it to Star Wars.

Good idea. Maybe implement it as a science BO skill since most of the cool stuff happens to be BO only skills.
