If Champions Online is any indication, then Cryptic uses the <char name@username> format for unique identifier. Which means, yes in theory you could have the same name with the same ship. More likely one or the other though.
Think of it this way: At least you get to have your name, because I guarentee you there were at least three others just like it in the headstart alone.

Two days ago, I saw another player not only with the same name as my ship, but the same Centaur design right down to the saucer, pylons, and warp nacelles. It was weird to say the least.
Cryptic was smart in doing that. This way someone tries to spam you in game with credit selling site you can report them and ban their whole account. It won't be like other games where they can simply delete their char before you catch on.
Ok, now I understand the forum name shown; good reason now to have it (though I still feel iffy tbh )
...but why the hell can't Cryptic make names UNIQUE!? That is the whole point of creating YOUR OWN NAME; if everyone is allowed to copy someone else's name, what's the point then? Might as well have a name given to you with no choice at all....
...and the ship names!? What's the point? Cryptic is killing Star Trek by allowing this...
