so i understand you have to spend the points

i capped all my space items and now i have to spend skill points aon the ground abilities which to me is a "waste" because im mainly after ship abilities, however i need to spend to make my rank SO as tactical officer and escort ship what should i be spending the rest of my points in?

You will have to spend some points on the less desireable things to get past that first rank. It's just the way it's set up at this time. In later ranks, you won't be able to get everything space based, you'll specialize more, so the ground skills aren't a problem.

I'm kind of undecided on what's the best route for those last skills. If you plan on doing much ground combat PvP, obviously beefing up your own ground combat skills might be one route to go for those last wasted points. On my current build, (Engineer in a science vessel), I put the last few points in the Team skills since two of my boffs have related space abilities, Science Team and Engineering Team. The side benefit is a bit of a boost for my away team on ground missions, but I chose it for the little boost to those space abilities.

Either way, since I'd already maxed all the space skills for that tier, it's not that big of a deal.

Science Team Leader, Engineering Team Leader, Tactical Team Leader. Sorry I didn't specify, was low on coffee. Life is better now.

Ahem, they mostly affect your away team ground abilities, but they also, if you read the fine print, help with specific bridge officer powers like Tactical Team, or Engineering Team, etc, which are various buffs and effects for space. Since I have a couple BOffs with these types of abilities, I used the remaining "useless" points I had to spend to rank up to modify these. Since it was either that or pure ground combat skills. /shrug
