Perhaps something to consider is letting the player chose between a new Escort/Science/Cruiser ship halfway through Tier 1- call it Tier 1.5, perhaps.

Expecting the player to spend 15-20 hours in the same ship with no other options is a bit much, IMHO.

As it is getting your T2 ship is something of a rite of passage, akin to old school WoW when you finally got to level 20 and unlocked a bunch of new skills, or level 40 when you got a mount and didn't have to walk everywhere.

Thing is... the excitement of those achievements only exists because of the pains of getting there.

My first time through during open beta it was pretty painful. I actually found it less painful the second time through... one would kind of think the opposite would apply.

I agree with this. I'm breezing through, second time around.

Too long! Heck 3 days and I'm at Commander - leveling is way to fast if you ask me. I sure hope it slows a bunch at tier 3 and 4 or I'll have burned through this game faster than any MMO I've ever played.

I'm not a driven gotta level guy either. I've just been doing missions as they come.

I thought it was long and horrible during CB and OB. But now that the game is live, I seem to be moving pretty well through LT. Of course my last 2 levels have been with the Constitution. So I was happy to be flying that around over the Miranda.

I made LT Commander during the head-start and I was able to do so even with the servers being up-and-down all weekend and real life commitments. And I KNOW there are people out there who made it a lot further than I did during the head-start. So my concern is just the opposite - it may be too easy. I have read that it gets harder at higher levels so I am looking forward to that. The last thing I want is to be maxing out my toons in a few weeks - especially when this game has such a limited amount of free character slots.

T1 missions are too easy IMO, though i remember reading back in OB that people were saying "missions were too hard"

I only died like 2 or 3 times both ground and space total that were PvE....I dont count fleet action on my death record. Like someone said, without the feeling of "Oh crap...im gonna die" the missions do feel mindless.....

I just did the bio-engineer T2 mission and that thing was fun! I have City on the Edge of Never on my list...and yes...I am actually intimitated by the awesomeness of that mission everyone keeps talking about.

Though it is funny who Crptic approached MMOs in a backwards way. MOst other MMOs, the noob missions and first twenty levels are super fast, and really fun. Its the later levels that get borning, grindy, and pointless.

Seriously?

What data did you base your assumption on that people will leave? I did not leave and I have already got 4 different characters since Open Beta to the next tier ship and two characters to tier 3.
