I've looked and found conflicting information on this topic, so I figured I'd ask: what are my weapon power considerations when piloting a cannon, turret, and torpedo equipped escort ship? I know torpedoes don't care, but what about the cannons? Does the weapon power stat affect anything that's not a beam?

I also notice my weapon power drops sometimes when firing weapons; do I need a certain minimum to keep my weapons firing? How do I calculate said minimum?

As a run-and-gunner, I'm discovering I need all four stats at a decent level to remain viable, so any points I can spare from weapons would be useful indeed. Thanks in advance for any help you all can provide.

And another quick question: I'd assumed "beam weapons" covered "anything that actually fires a beam," i.e. not cannons, turrets, or torpedoes. Yet when I look at the info pane for cannons, it notes that "beam weapons work equally well against starship shields and hull." Is "beam weapon" status determined by damage type (disruptor, plasma, etc) or is that a typo?
