ok, ive been flying around in my t2 escort for a little while doing some lower level missions to get the hang of her and Ive noticed that something doesnt feel right with my shields and power levels.

So, Im sitting here with 3400 shield strenght all around and noticing that these NPCs are just blowing through my shields like they are wet paper bags. So, I started looking at my power levels to see what I got going on and why it feels like my shields are almost not there.

Number time:

In my personalized power setup Im sitting in:
74/ 60 weapons
62 / 60 shields
32 / 25 speed
57/50 aux

with
mk 2 impulse engs
+8.2 flight speed, +7.5 turn rate
mk3 plasma manifold
+2 to weapon power levels
28 warp core training

Anyway, I cannot figure out why I have such a wide varience of extra power levels instead of a mostly close and balanced distribution from my extra WCT with a slight varience caused by consoles and engines.

I have also noticed that when changing between presets that my shield level will flicker for a split second and then go back to what it was as if its not being updated and displayed as it should, in real time.



While I do have a tendency to be a bit of a min/maxer, my intrest in this is from my gut feeling that something is wrong and I can see and feel some of the effects but I cannot for the life of me find the cause.

Escorts get +10 to weapons.

Other power bonuses come from skills and equipment.

Not sure on the breakdown on the skills though. Keep your eyes on the forum, somebody will crunch the numbers and come out with a guide sometime.

Power in shields does not increase your maximum shield strength it only increases your shield regen. If you want tougher shields go with covarient. There is some debate that shield power may buff damage resistance but I've yet to see anything conclusive.
